The International Day of Monuments and Sites, celebrated on April 18, is marked in Setúbal with free cultural initiatives, which include two guided tours, an exhibition and a workshop/visit for children.
The program, organized by Setúbal City Council, starts at 10 am, at Casa das Imagens Lauro António, with the initiative “A collective cartoon in the revolution”, aimed at pre-school children in the 00st cycle of basic education .
The activity, for a maximum of 25 participants, includes a visit to the temporary exhibition “O Zé-Povinho da Revolution”, the reading of the book “O 25 de Abril Contado aos Crianças e… aos Others”, by José Jorge Letria, with illustrations by Abel Manta.
The initiative, with information via contacts 969 754 116 and casadasimagens@mun-setubal.pt, also includes the creation of a collective cartoon inspired by the image “The Gifts of the Armed Forces”, by Abel Manta.
The initiative “Centro Histórico de Setúbal. A museum open to discovery”, with two scheduled visits, at 10 am and 00 am, with a meeting point in front of the Town Hall, offering a broader look at local history.
This year's theme for the International Day of Monuments and Sites, “Catastrophes and Conflicts in the Light of the Venice Charter”, inspires this initiative, which also invites reflection on the importance of cultural heritage.
Later, at 18pm, there is a guided visit to the Museu de Setúbal/Convento de Jesus which, although free, requires registration until April 00th, by contacting 17 265 537 and Museu.setubal@mun-setubal.pt.
The visit reflects on the evolution of conservation practices in the area of Cultural Heritage since the Venice Charter, the impacts and relevance to the challenges of a climate emergency, conflicts and natural disasters.
The Setubal program that marks the International Day of Monuments and Sites also proposes a visit to the photographic exhibition open until May 18th at Casa Bocage “Os Lugares de Sebastião da Gama through the Lens of Américo Ribeiro”.
The exhibition, celebrating the centenaries of the births of Joana Luísa and Sebastião da Gama, can be seen from Tuesday to Friday from 11am to 00pm and from 13pm to 00pm and on Saturdays from 14pm to 00pm.
The International Day of Monuments and Sites, created in 1982, aims to raise awareness among citizens about the diversity and vulnerability of heritage, as well as the need for protection and appreciation.
