Music is one of the attractions of the program commemorating the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April in Setúbal, with emphasis on concerts with Marisa Liz, António Zambujo and Wet Bed Gang, taking place in various locations in the municipality.
The highlight is scheduled for April, with the April Concerts event, in which Marisa Liz and special guests A Garota Não and Cláudia Pascoal welcome the 50th anniversary of Freedom, on the 24th, from 22pm, at Largo José Afonso.
The Setúbal Children's Choir and the TuttiEncantus Choir take the stage at the end to sing “Grândola, Vila Morena”, before fireworks are launched at Doca dos Pescadores, at midnight, to mark the exact moment of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April.
The commemorative program for Freedom Day begins at 09:00 am, in the Town Hall, with the raising of the flag, followed by a tribute to the anti-fascists with the laying of flowers at the Monument to the Resistance, in collaboration with URAP – União de Resistências Antifascistas Portugueses .
An evocative solemn session, at around 10 am, at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, concludes the program in the morning.
In the afternoon, at 15pm, the sculpture “The Tree of Liberty”, by Ricardo Crista, is inaugurated in Largo José Afonso.
The program for the 25th is completed with a concert in Vila Nogueira de Azeitão, at Mercado Mensal, at 21:30 pm, with António Zambujo, followed by fireworks at midnight.
The last show of the April Concerts cycle takes the rap and hip hop rhythms of Wet Bed Gang to Herdade da Mourisca, on the 27th, at 21:30 pm, after an afternoon of activities with the participation of young artists and the associative movement, the take place on the football field from 15pm.
The month that marks the 50th anniversary of Freedom also has other special concerts with a repertoire focused on the themes that marked the revolution, starting with tenor João Mendonza who on the 5th, at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, at 21 pm, sings April with the Light Orchestra of the Palmela Conservatory.
The show, which also includes the participation of the Luísa Todi Choir, has tickets for 12 euros.
The Luísa Todi Municipal Forum also hosts shows by Vitorino, on the 19th, with tickets at 15 euros, and by the band Três Tigres Tristes, on the 21st, with tickets at 10 euros, both starting at 21pm.
The celebration of the 50th anniversary of the Carnation Revolution, started in 2022 under the title Venham Mais Vinte e Cincos, covers the entire municipality with a wide range of activities around the objective of providing new dynamics that enrich the municipality socially, politically and culturally.
Taking place between 2022 and 2025, the Venham Mais Vinte e Cincos project, organized by the Setúbal City Council with the parish councils and the associative movement, is concerned with promoting events that, as a whole, affirm Setúbal as a territory of April , perpetuating the values and achievements of the Carnation Revolution.
Concerts, scenic shows, exhibitions, cinema, poetry, publishing and presentation of books, evocation of places, events and figures, gatherings and conferences, in addition to specific activities for schools, are part of this vast program, with around one hundred outlined initiatives.
