The 4th edition of the Setúbal Open Water Race, an open water swimming competition to be held on April 20th, with registrations sold out, has the participation of more than 650 swimmers.
The sporting event features three events at different distances and more than 650 athletes of various nationalities, with the aim of reinforcing the status of Setúbal Bay in the international panorama of open water swimming.
After the Sado River was the stage for the debut edition in 2020, limited to three hundred participants, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year the competition can host up to 800 athletes, individually or as a team.
On April 20th, at 09:00 am, the first strokes are taken from Praia do Creiro, in the Arrábida Natural Park, where the longest race of the competition begins, with 3800 meters, which takes swimmers on a course without stop, with two laps and crossing the sand at the end of the initial lap.
Two hours later, at 11:00, also at Praia do Creiro, the 1900 meter stage begins, with one lap, and, at 12:00, the swimmers leave for the 750 meter race, also with one lap.
The Setúbal Open Water Race, a joint organization of HMS Sports and Setúbal City Council, is approved by the Portuguese Swimming Federation.
The open water competition, for people over 15 years old, has regulations and information available on the event's official page, accessible on this link.
Prizes are given to the top three men and women in each event, as well as the male and female winners of each category.
