An exhibition with documents, photographs, cartoons and drawings by graphic artists related to the production of the documentary “O Zé Povinho na Revolucion”, by Lauro António, opens on April 13th, at Casa das Imagens, in Setúbal.
The initiative, part of the 50th Anniversary Celebrations of the 25th of April, scheduled for 16pm, includes the screening of the documentary, which portrays the period of the Carnation Revolution through caricature.
“O Zé Povinho na Revolucion”, directed by Lauro António with funding from the Portuguese Cinema Institute, is a repository of caricatures and photomontages that appeared in the press between April 25, 1974 and November 25, 1975.
Period images and sound recordings are part of the documentary, which featured the participation of Abel Escoto, one of the most important Portuguese directors of photography.
The exhibition with the same name, open from April 13th to June 7th at Casa da Imagens, shares information panels with documentation and images about Lauro António's cinematographic project, created in an artisanal way, from the pre-generic to the final generic designed handcrafted by Carlos Paulo Simões.
Two new cartoons and a ceramic sculpture of “Guarda Ricardo”, one of the cartoonist SAM's most famous characters, are also on display, given by the artist to Lauro António and his wife Maria Eduarda Colares.
Drawings by some of the greatest Portuguese graphic artists published in the press and present in the documentary, namely João Abel Manta, Cid, José Vilhena, Pedro, António and Crocodilo, and a special tribute to Rafael Bordalo Pinheiro and the character Zé Povinho are also in exhibition.
“O Zé Povinho na Revolucion”, free entry, can be visited from Tuesday to Friday from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 18:00 pm. On Saturdays, visiting hours are from 14pm to 00pm, until May 18st, and from 00pm to 31pm, from June 15st.
