Setúbal is once again on the route of the world open water swimming circuit by hosting, on May 27th and 28th, the second leg of the FINA Open Water Tour 2023.
The competition calendar, announced on November 17 by the International Swimming Federation, consists of six stages to be held throughout the year, starting on May 20 and 21, in Golfo Aranci, Sardinia, Italy.
Next, on the 27th and 28th, is the stage on the river Sado, which takes place, as usual, from the Parque Urbano de Albarquel, a riverside space that provides all the conditions for the sporting event to take place.
In addition to the unique natural characteristics of the city, there is also the capacity and organizational quality already demonstrated by the Municipality of Setúbal and by the Portuguese Swimming Federation and internationally recognized.
These arguments mean that Setúbal is, year after year, on the route of this international modality, whether in stages of the world circuit, as was the case in 2022 of the FINA Marathon Swim World Series, or in Olympic qualification events, which , in this case, occurred in 2012, 2016 and 2021.
After Setúbal, the competition heads to Paris, France, on the 5th and 6th of August, Nantou, in Taiwan, on the 28th and 29th of October, and Hong Kong, on the 4th and 5th of November.
The elite of open water swimming complete the world circuit with the sixth stage of the aquatic marathon in the distance of ten kilometers to be disputed on the 1st and 2nd of December in Eilat, Israel.
