The oyster from Setúbal is featured in the first edition of the Festa do Mar, an event organized by the City Council, to be held between the 5th and 9th of October, in Largo José Afonso.
The Festa do Mar – Ostra Especial de Setúbal, part of the municipal strategy for promoting gastronomic and tourist tourism in the municipality, has the participation of four local producers with different proposals for dishes made with seafood, with special emphasis on oysters.
Naturally, with topping or cooked are the suggestions presented by Best Fish, Exporsado, Neptun Pearl and Ostra Ribeiro in four menus with various prices.
The gastronomic event, organized with the support of Vertentitinerante Lda and the União das Freguesias de Setúbal, includes, in addition to oysters, prawns à la guilho and cooked, clams, seafood rice, stuffed crab and lobster.
The region's wine is one of the choices to accompany the food, with Quinta de Catralvos, the event's host brand, presenting a selection that ranges from sparkling wines to white and rosé wines for the perfect pairing with the flavors of the sea.
The event, which also has drinks such as beers and soft drinks, operates similarly to the Festival de Francesinhas, held at the same location in August, with a specific place for payment of doses and issuance of vouchers for delivery to gastronomic spaces and corresponding picking up orders.
The first edition of the Festa do Mar – Especial Ostra de Setúbal is inaugurated on the 5th, at 12:00, by the vice-president of the City Council, Carla Guerreiro, working from 12:00 to 15:00 and from 19:00 to 23:00.
The event has a set of parallel activities that include workshops, a lecture, musical entertainment, entertainment for the youngest and sale of handicrafts and regional sweets.
“Quality of the Sado oysters” is the title of the lecture, from the Mar à Conversa cycle, to be held on the 6th, at 15:00 pm, at Casa da Baía, led by professor from the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal Ricardo Salgado, who develops research in the areas of Ecology, Environmental and Marine Biotechnology and Aquaculture.
Participation requires prior registration by email address gpe@mun-setubal.pt.
At the Festa do Mar venue, in Largo José Afonso, a series of workshops introduces oyster opening techniques on the 7th, at 19:00h, and the 9th, at 12:30h. For the 7th, at 20:00, a livecooking with the live cooking of oyster tempura is scheduled. These initiatives are promoted by Exporsado.
Entertainment at Largo José Afonso is guaranteed by inflatables for children and four jazz combo shows on the 5th, 7th and 8th.
The duo Sintoniza-te, with Bernardo Cruz, on piano, and Ivo Rodrigues, on trumpet, performs on the 5th, at 12:30 and at 20:00, and on the 7th, at 20:00. The Blue Oyster Trio, composed by Luís Cunha, on trumpet, João Espadinha, on guitar, and Gonçalo Naia, on bass, close the cycle of musical performances on the 8th, from 20 pm.
Regional sweets are also associated with the Festa do Mar – Special Oyster of Setúbal with “Cegas Tradições” presenting several proposals, including the “Oysters Doces”, a delicacy made with oranges from Setúbal.
In handicrafts, Pedaços de Mar, by Nuno Paulino, offers an offer of unique pieces made from recycled materials from the sea.
