The Oceanographic Museum is housed in the Santa Maria da Arrábida Fortress, built in 1670, and has the collection of naturalist Luiz Gonzaga do Nascimento, from Setubal, dating back to the early XNUMXth century.
It works as an interpretive center where visitors can get to know the fauna of the Arrábida Marine Park and the entire region, glimpse and interpret underwater life.
In 2016, he was distinguished with the Natura Mare 2016 Award, for the “example of excellence in terms of conservation and management of a marine protected area”, a true “success case” in the protection of marine life.
In the Museum you can visit the Saltwater Aquarium Room, with fauna and flora from the marine coast of Arrábida and the Exhibition Room where thematic exhibitions related to the coast, Arrábida and the river Sado are on display. The Museum also has a room dedicated to the audiovisual area.
