“Equality between women and men” is the theme of Março Mulher 2022, a program that reserves concerts, walks, cinema, literary meetings, conversations and training to be held during the month in various spaces and facilities in Setúbal.
The vast calendar of activities, organized by SEIES - Society for Studies and Intervention in Social Engineering in partnership with the Municipality of Setúbal, with the collaboration of several institutions, celebrates International Women's Day, marked on March 8.
The program starts on the 3rd, at 21:00, at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum with a concert by the North American Joan as Police Woman, who presents the album “The Solution is Restless”, with tickets at 14 euros for the audience and 12 for the counter.
Music returns with concerts from the Convento ConVida cycle, at 11:30 am, at Igreja de Jesus, at 5 pm, by the Ateliê de Ópera de Setúbal, at 12, by the Ensemble Vocal Aura, and at 26, by the Ensemble Juvenil de Setúbal. Tickets, for five euros, can be purchased at the Museu de Setúbal/Convento de Jesus.
The walks are already a reference in the March Woman program, with the first one scheduled for the 5th, with a meeting point at 09:30 am at the Community Center of the União das Freguesias de Setúbal – Polo da Anunciada, passing through the streets of the historic center and a final moment of conviviality and interventions in Jardim do Quebedo. A new walk, on the 6th, starting at 09:00 am, runs through the streets of the parish of Sado, between the Social and Cultural Center and the Moinho de Maré da Mourisca, where a snack-conviviality is held. On the 20th, at 09:00 am, the meeting point for another walk is the Clube Desportivo, Cultural e Recreativo de Gambia, for a tour through the streets of the parish of Gambia-Pontes-Alto da Guerra that culminates in a gathering to celebrate International Women's Day on the community premises.
Cinema is another highlight of the March Woman 2022 program, with a set of free sessions at the Centro de Cidadania Ativa, on Mondays at 15:00 pm.
On the 7th, the film “Frida”, by Julie Taymor, is shown, and on the 14th, it is possible to see “The Exchange”, by Clint Eastwood. Next, on the 21st, “Harriet”, by Kasi Lemmons, and, at the end of the cycle of Cinema Mondays, on the 28th, the film “The Hours”, by Stephen Daldry, is shown.
Cinema Charlot – Municipal Auditorium also hosts free sessions, starting on the 9th, at 19 pm, with the screening of the documentary “Consent is not bought”, followed by a debate on the topic of prostitution and sexual exploitation.
The following day, at 10:30 am and 14:30 pm, there are sessions for schools with the screening of the film “Woman – Mulher”, by Anastasia Mikova and Yann Arthus-Bertrand. Entries must be made by e-mail setcurtas@mun-setubal.pt.
On the 12th, at 16:00, at Casa do Largo, the film “The Swallows of Kabul”, by Zabou Breitman, is shown, and on the 20th, at the same time, at Espaço 50 Cuts, it is possible to see the film by Haufaa al-Mansour “ The perfect candidate.” Tickets for each session cost one euro.
The March Mulher commemorations include a set of literary meetings, conversations and interaction campaigns with the population on the theme of “Equality between women and men”.
The project “O pai já vai” challenges parents from the municipality of Setúbal to send photographs of unique moments between parents and children and join a campaign on the importance of being a father.
The images, sent to the address plano.igualdade@mun-setubal.pt, are published online on the 19th.
The campaign “Equality in each field”, running from the 7th to the 13th, invites people from Setúbal to create visual messages, which will be placed in various places in the city to stimulate reflection on inequalities. “What is sexism” is the motto for a campaign taking place between the 14th and 20th of March, with the publication of a message a day on the social networks of the Municipality of Setúbal and SEIES.
On the 8th, International Women's Day, from 10:00 am, there is an exhibition of poems against violence, at the Conde Ferreira School, written by the members of Casa da Poesia, and small postcards with phrases alluding to the theme placed, in several places of the City.
In the afternoon, there is a set of activities at Praça de Bocage, which starts at 14:00 pm with live paintings by a group of artists from Artiset.
Between 15:00 pm and 18:00 pm, SEIES promotes the “Setúbal com + Igualdade” street action, to listen to the population and disseminate proposals on equality.
An open microphone moment is scheduled for 17:30 pm, in which individuals and institutions in the municipality are challenged to speak on the subject.
“A tea and many questions” is the theme of an open meeting of the LGBTI Group of SEIES to be held on the 10th, at 18:30, at the Centro de Cidadania Ativa.
A reading staged by Joana Manuel, also on the 10th, at 21 pm, at the Casa da Cultura, reveals “Voices of Women in the Work of Saramago”. Tickets for the event cost four euros.
Still in the literary field, the Municipality of Setúbal and Casa da Poesia organize, on the 21st, between 17:00 and 19:00, under the pretext of the 11th edition of the Poetry Marathon, a session of “Poesia no Feminino”, at the Municipal Public Library.
On the 18th, at 14:30 pm, at the Centro de Cidadania Ativa, there is a conversation about “Sexism in the city”, and the next day, from 15:30 pm, at Casa do Largo, the theme “Makes noise for Equality” sets the tone for a conversation that includes the participation of representatives of various organizations involved in the area of equality.
On the 19th, between 15:30 pm and 17:30 pm, the Azeitão Library will host the gathering “What mother/father am I?”, with the participation of Lurdes Rodrigues and Telma Cunha. Registration, free of charge, must be made by calling 937 298 160.
On the 24th, starting at 18:30 pm, the Centro de Cidadania Ativa hosts the meeting “The blood-scare”, to reflect on the taboos of menstruation, open to the participation of women of all ages. Entries must be made by telephone contact 265 547 450 or by email seies@cooperativaseies.org.
“African literature” is the theme of the lecture given by Inocência Mata on the work of the Mozambican writer Pauline Chiziane, to be held on the 26th, at 16:00 pm, at the Museum of Archeology and Ethnography of the District of Setúbal.
The March Mulher 2022 program also reserves, on the 8th, from 17:00 pm to 19:00 pm, at the Gambia Sports, Cultural and Recreation Club, a set of recreational activities for children and a make-up and hairstyle session for women, with registration through contact telephone 966 280 470.
