“Echoes of Freedom” is the theme of this edition of the Setúbal International Music Festival, which takes place in May, in a program with eleven concerts, in which more than 1200 children and young people participate alongside professional artists.
The event invites children, young people, artists, orchestras, conservatories, choirs and other projects to perform musical proposals around freedom, as part of the local program of the Celebrations of the 50th Anniversary of the 25th of April.
The agenda extends over five days, between May 8th and 12th, with the aim of promoting cultural sharing that ensures the connection between professional musicians, Portuguese and foreign, and the local community, including more than a thousand children and young people, for unique and striking artistic creations and musical performances.
The cultural event, organized by A7M – Setúbal Music Festival Association in partnership between the Helen Hamlyn Trust and the City Council, has the main stage at the Luísa Todi Forum, but concerts are also scheduled in places such as the Church and Cloisters of the Convento de Jesus , Paços do Concelho and Sociedade Perpétua Azeitonense.
The program starts on the 8th, at 21pm, with “Harmonias de Liberdade: Zeca played by kids”, which brings together on the stage of the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum the Setúbal Regional Conservatory, the Setúbal Contemporary Dance Academy, the Setúbal Music Academy Almada and the Setúbal Children's Choir.
On the 9th, at 15pm, the Setúbal Regional Conservatory presents, also at the Luísa Todi Forum, the “Pedagogical Concert: Carnival of Animals” for school groups from the 00st and 1nd cycles of basic education, followed by 2pm, at the Church of Jesus, the show “Portuguese music for strings”, with the Sexteto da Camerata Atlântica, the Conservatório Regional de Setúbal and the Academia de Música e Belas-Artes Luisa Todi.
On May 10th, the usual percussion parade will take place, this year called “Batucada da Revolution”, starting at 10:30 am at Largo José Afonso, with musical direction and coordination by António Machado and Diogo Castro and the participation of students from 1 2st and XNUMXnd cycles of basic education in schools in the municipality.
On the same day, the Orquestra Criativa de Santa Maria da Feira, the percussion and saxophone ensembles of the Conservatório Regional de Setúbal, the TuttiEncantus Women's Choir and Cerci Feira and Cerci Lamas will take the stage at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum at 21 pm to perform “The dove of peace is full of future revolutions.”
On the 11th, at 10:30 am and 12:00 pm, in the cloisters of the Convento de Jesus, the concert “Listen to the difference: poetry is on the street” is promoted, with musical coordination and music therapy by Ana Marques and creation, composition and musical direction by Aleksandar Zar, a show in which APPACDM de Setúbal, the Academia de Música Luísa Todi and the Coral Infantil de Setúbal participate.
The British cellist, naturalized Brazilian, David Chew performs on the same day, at 18:00 pm, in the Salão Nobre of the Paços do Concelho, while the Portuguese singer and composer Miguel Araújo performs on the stage of the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum at 21:00 pm with the Orquestra Ligeira from the Regional Conservatory from Palmela.
On the 12th, at 10:00 am and 11:30 am, the Forum Luísa Todi is the meeting point for “Creative Writing of Songs”, a concert with the involvement of 1st cycle students directed by Carlos Garrote and with Ariel Rodriguez, on the keyboard, Ale Damasceno, on drums, and Ana Marques, on clarinet.
At 16pm, Croatian guitarist Dejan Ivanovic, accompanied by the Guitar Ensemble from the Setúbal International Music Festival, will perform in a concert in the auditorium of Sociedade Filarmónica Perpétua Azeitonense, directed by Gonçalo Gomes Gouveia.
The last day of the festival features a third, closing concert, at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, at 18:30 pm, dedicated to the festival's theme, “Ecos de Liberdade”, with the Setúbal International Music Festival Symphonic Orchestra and the participation of students from all partner schools of the event, directed by maestro Pablo Urbina.
