The Setúbal Bay International Swim Marathon was created in 2006 as part of the Open Water Swimming World Cup circuit, attracting, since the first edition, the best world athletes in the sport.
The organizational success of the first five editions led to the event being designated in 2011 as the FINA Setúbal Bay 10 Km World Cup, being elected as the last qualifying event for the London Olympic Games in 2012, assuming, that year, the title of FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier 2012.
The spectacularity of the event, with several editions to be played in exciting final straights, and often complemented with other initiatives, such as exhibitions of aerial acrobatics, attracts, year after year, thousands of people in attendance.
