The monument to Bocage was inaugurated on December 21, 1871. The statue of the poet, in white marble, rests on a Corinthian column.
Bocage holds a bird's feather in his right hand and holds some sheets of paper in his left. The statue is two meters high and, like the column, was sculpted in the workshop of Germano José de Salles, in Lisbon.
Bocage was born in Setúbal on September 15, 1765 and died in Lisbon on December 21, 1805.
