Arrábida Walking Festival
25th to 27th of March 2022
The AWF – Arrábida Walking Festival, a joint organization of Biotrails and the municipal councils of Setúbal, Palmela and Sesimbra, offers several walking routes through the Arrábida territory, in an event that combines nature tourism with leisure and well-being.
In addition to encouraging healthy lifestyles, the activity provides a unique opportunity to get to know the Arrábida Natural Park with experiences that allow a very close interaction with the various ecosystems to be covered.
Alongside the central program of walking tours, which, like last year, maintains “The Great Archaeological Route”, this edition includes a set of walks to discover the unique richness of the flora of Arrábida, accompanied by specialists, with emphasis on the collaboration of the Portuguese Botanical Society.
The objective is to identify different plants on each trail and provide an overview of the specificities of the flora of this protected area, composed of about 1450 species, which correspond to approximately 40 percent of the natural diversity existing in Portugal.
The AWF also proposes a botany on the go class, in which participants have the opportunity to get to know some medicinal and edible plants, as well as their uses and properties, and to do a tasting of infusions.
The event offers a complementary program of activities, namely themed routes, gastronomic and photography workshops, guided tours and a walk accessible to people with visual impairments, on a sensory pedestrian path.
During the three days at the end of March, the Arrábida Walking Festival 2022 features options of trails and activities, day and night, whose intensities vary between low, medium and high, and routes adapted for children with the aim of providing family walks.
