Gastronomic Events in 2023

Mackerel Week - May 19th to 28th

A commented tasting and a pedagogical activity enrich the program of Semana da Cavala 2023, taking place in Setúbal between the 19th and 28th of May, with more than three dozen restaurants from Sadino presenting special menus.

During the initiative of the City Council, promoted within the scope of the “Setúbal Terra de Peixe” project to promote tourism and regional products, 32 catering establishments in the county include dishes specially centered on mackerel on their menus.

In addition to the more traditional ways of cooking this traditional fish from the Sadina coast, some restaurants include more elaborate proposals, such as A Casa do Peixe, which suggests steamed mackerel and cod mackerel, Decor & Salteado, with mackerel timbale, or Omotenashi, which promotes mackerel tartare and sashimi this week.

At the same time, the Cavala Week program develops “Probable Encounters”, with a guided visit to the headquarters of the Clube Recreativo Palhavã, followed by a tasting commented by chef Isabel Fonseca da Docapesca, on the 20th, at 18 pm.

The life of the mackerel is the thematic proposal of a pedagogical workshop scheduled for May 27th, at 17:00 pm, at the Municipal Public Library, free of charge, but registration required until May 25th. The workshop, intended for ages 3 and up, offers more details about the fish's diet and habitat.
