It marked the beginning of the toil season and it was during this time that fishermen and seafarers asked their patron for protection against dangers and a blessing for good fishing.
The highlight of this religious festival is the procession with images of Senhor do Bonfim, Nossa Senhora da Arrábida and Nossa Senhora do Rosário de Tróia – the patron saints of the two former fishing communities of Setúbal (Fontainhas and Tróino), which follow to the pier where the fishing boats are blessed.
