Under the title “Bairro Salgado – From the Neighborhood to the Museum”, the exhibition, organized by the Setúbal City Council, will be on view at the Museu do Trabalho until February 24th, with free entry.
The three dozen watercolor works represent the portal of the Gafaria de Nossa Senhora da Saúde, the old Garagem Bocage, the Infantário Popular do Bonfim and the former facilities of the Setúbal delegation of PIDE.
Churches, an old bakery, residential complexes and the access gates to the backyards, which were common in the best houses in the neighborhood, are also illustrated, as a leisure and social space for residents and visitors.
According to the exhibition brochure, Bairro Salgado, a housing, commercial and service complex bounded by Avenida 5 de Outubro, Rua Almeida Garrett and avenues Manuel Maria Portela and Alexandre Herculano, is “a rich microcosm of memories, experiences and traditions that They deserve to be preserved and celebrated.”
The people and heritage of Setúbal are the constant inspiration of António Madureira Pais, born in 1961, in Valpaços.
He has been drawing and painting since he was very young, but it was when he was close to 40 that he took brushes, pencils and paints more seriously and started showing his work in individual and group exhibitions.
He was part of the Pró-Arte association and is currently a member of ARTISET – Association of Visual Artists of Setúbal.
