Quelimane is the capital and largest city in the province of Zambézia, in Mozambique. It is located along the Bons Sinais River, about 20 kilometers from the Indian Ocean, with maritime marketing and fishing being one of its main economic activities.
Quelimane was an important trading center when the Portuguese arrived there in 1498, more specifically Vasco da Gama, on his first voyage to India.
