Program celebrates Bocage and City Day
Bocage and City Day, September 15th, is celebrated with traditional protocol ceremonies, as part of a program that, between the 14th and 17th, includes concerts, exhibitions, literary meetings, dance and sports activities.
The flag-raising ceremony at the Paços do Concelho building and the laying of flowers on the statue of Bocage, accompanied by the reading of poems by the Casa da Poesia, starting at 09:00 am on the 15th, begin the celebrations of the municipal holiday, organized of Setúbal City Council with partnerships.
The protocol ceremonies continue, at 10 am, at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, with a formal session in which honorary medals are awarded to personalities and entities that stood out in different spheres of society and which honors recently retired municipal workers.
Between 09:00 am and 12:00 pm, a tourist peddy paper takes place, starting at Casa da Baía, to take participants to discover the city with the creative challenge of capturing images and sharing them on social networks with the hashtag #experiencesetubal.
In the afternoon, Casa Bocage, on Rua Edmond Bartissol, is open between 14 pm and 00 pm for guided tours of the long-term exhibition “Bocage – Controversial, Discussed, Genial”, which helps to discover the life and work of of the poet, born on September 18, 00, in Setúbal.
In the Main Hall of the Town Hall, at 16:00, it receives the launch session of the book “The Essential about Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage”, by Daniel Pires, by the Bocage Studies Center, a publication edited by the National Mint Press.
An hour later, the same hall of the Setúbal City Council building is the stage for a new literary meeting, with the presentation of the winning work of the XXII Literary Contest Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage, promoted by LASA – Liga dos Amigos de Setúbal e Azeitão , with a cultural moment by Associação Setúbal Voz.
The Bocage and City Day celebrations program also includes, between 17:00 and 24:00, a special edition of the Great Exhibition of Knowledge and Flavors of Setúbal, to be held in the public space of Doca dos Pescadores, on the riverfront of the city.
In downtown Setubal, between 17:00 and 19:00, the initiative “Tertúlias Bocageanas: 3 Musicians, 3 Largos, 3 Poetry Meetings” takes place, promoted by the Casa da Poesia de Setúbal and the TOMA Cultural Association, with actions in the squares of Misericórdia and Ribeira Velha and at Praça de Bocage.
The municipal holiday program ends with the concert Serenata de Coimbra | Evocation of José Afonso, at 21, in the arcades of the Town Hall, which brings together the Quarteto de Coimbra Group, Tertúlia Coimbrã de Miratejo, the Coimbra Group in Sado and the Poetry Center of Setúbal.
The celebrations of the 258th anniversary of the birth of Bocage, although centered on the municipal holiday of September 15th, also include cultural activities for the enjoyment of the population on the 14th, 16th and 17th, which are promoted in various spaces and facilities in the city.
The bibliographic exhibition “Bocage: Poetry that Echoes in History”, with the presentation of works by and about Manuel Maria Barbosa du Bocage, is on display at the Municipal Library and poles on the 14th and 15th, from 09:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 14:00 pm to 17:30 pm.
Also on 14 pm, at 21 pm, the arcades of the Town Hall receive the Great Fado Night of Setúbal, a closing concert of the Fado project in Setúbal, promoted by the municipality with the five parish councils, which provided, in this edition, 30 concerts in the entire territory.
Performing tonight are the fado singers Carla Tecla, Carlos Zacarias, Carolina Mendes, Eugénio Almeida, Fernando Anselmo, Joana Tecla, Luís Miguel, Maria Caetano, Maria do Céu Freitas, Nuno Rocha, Ramiro Costa, Sara Margarida and Susana Martins, with guitarists Custódio Magalhães and Vitor Pereira.
The program on the 16th opens with a new tourist peddy paper, to be held between 10 am and 00 pm, which challenges participants in this test guided by a circular route, starting and ending at Casa da Baía, to discover pieces to build a model in three dimensions of a boat from Setubal.
At Moinho de Maré da Mourisca, between 10:00 am and 19:00 pm, Mercadinhos Entre Maré Viv'ó Bocage takes place, with regional products, handicrafts and an arts and crafts show around commemorative themes of the sadino poet, an event that repeats on the 17th, from 10:00 am to 17:00 pm.
In this tourist facility at Herdade da Mourisca there is also, on the 16th, between 15 pm and 00 pm, the “Tertúlia – Classic Guitar, Wine and Bocage Poems”, with the recitation of sonnets by Elmano Sadino set to live music by the strumming of the classical guitar .
The program on the 16th also features, at Casa Bocage, an activity by the Reading Group of that municipal equipment, while Casa das Imagens Lauro António shows the 13th episode of the documentary “Maior que o Pensamento – Zeca Afonso”, both with start at 16 pm.
In the Forte da Bela Vista neighborhood, next to the Renascer statue, between 16:00 and 22:00, the fifth edition of Festa Sabores do Bairro takes place, with performances by guest artists, gastronomy and handicraft stalls, an activity promoted under the municipal program Our Neighborhood, Our City.
Also on the 16th, at 17 pm, the arcades of the Town Hall will host the XIX Festival of Philharmonic Bands of the City of Setúbal, with the Sociedade Desportiva e Recreativa União Mucifalense, the Sociedade Filarmónica Palmelense “Os Loureiros”, the Sociedade Recreativa e Filarmónica 00. º de Janeiro and Capricho Setubalense.
In the evening, at 20 pm, at Casa da Baía, there is a Dinner with Bocage, with a menu inspired by the products of the poet's time, prepared by a chef from the School of Hospitality and Tourism of Setúbal, with animation by Água Ardente – Produções Teatrais. Closing the program on the 16th, the Alentejo musician Luís Trigacheiro presents the show “Tour Fado do Meu Cante”, at 21 pm, at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, with tickets costing 30 euros for the audience and 18 for the counter.
On the 17th, between 10h00 and 12h00, the III Elmano Sadino Literary Peddy Paper will take place from Moinho de Maré da Mourisca, with registrations, available soon, on this link, while Casa Bocage promotes, at 10:30 am, the creative writing workshop “Come and Know the Poetry of Bocage”.
