Mourisca Tide Mill
The Mourisca Tide Mill, located in “Herdade da Mourisca” (Sado Estuary Nature Reserve), is one of four known tidal mills in the Sado Estuary, and is in a prime location for birdwatching.
This 280m2 structure was built to operate eight millstones simultaneously, which were active until the 1950’s.
After years of abandonment, the Institute for Nature Conservation and Biodiversity purchased it and began its reconstruction and restoration.
In 2012, after a co-management protocol was signed, the Setúbal City Council was also entrusted with the responsibility of revitalising the mill and the surrounding area.
A wide range of activities are carried out at the Mourisca Tide Mill throughout the year. Guided tours to the mill; Hiking (Mourisca Trail and Montado Trail); Birdwatching; Boat tours in the Sado Estuary; Workshops and themed exhibitions; Fairs and themed
events (ObservaNatura and regional shows); Presenting environmental projects and Tasting oysters and regional products.
The Mill also has a café and a shop which sells regional products.
