Oceanographic Museum
The Oceanographic Museum is located in the St. Mary of Arrábida Fort (built in 1670) and holds a collection from Setúbal-born Luiz Gonzaga do Nascimento, which dates back to the early 20th century.
It operates as an interpretative centre where the visitor can discover the fauna of the Arrábida Marine Park and of the whole region, as well as observe underwater life.
In 2016 it was awarded the Natura Mare Award 2016, for being an excellent example for the conservation and management of a protected marine area, a true success in protecting marine life.
In the Museum, you can visit the Seawater Aquarium Room, with flora and fauna from the Arrábida marine coastline and the Exhibitions Room, where exhibitions of the coast, the Arrábida and the Sado River are on display. The museum even has a room dedicated to the audio-visual field.
