Michel Giacometti Museum of Labour

The Michel Giacometti Museum of Labour opened its doors in 1995, after the “Perienes” food canning factory was transformed into a museum.

The Museum has its origins in the ethnographic collection gathered by students from the Student Civil Service in 1975, as part of the Work and Culture plan, which was supervised by Michel Giacometti and then displayed in the Museum of Labour that was named after him.

Dedicated to the world of work, the Michel Giacometti Museum of Labour was designed to reflect the three sectors of the economy.

The main elements include industrial heritage, urban trade professions, services and former canneries and lithographs from the municipality of Setúbal.

The collection of agricultural tools and everyday rural instruments and appliances also stand out.

The permanent exhibitions on display are “The Canning Industry (From Auction to Can)”, “Rural World – Michael Giacometti Ethnographic Collection and Genesis of the Museum” and “Liberdade Grocery Store – a Heritage Worth Keeping.”
