The ten-kilometre aquatic marathon, organised by World Aquatics in partnership with Setúbal City Council and the Portuguese Swimming Federation, starts at 15pm with the men's event, followed ten minutes later by the women's competition.
The Setúbal event has more than fifty swimmers registered, including Olympic medalists, five of whom won medals at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, such as Hungarians Kristof Rasovszky and David Betlehem, German Oliver Klemet, Australian Moesha Johson and Italian Ginevra Taddeucci.
In the challenge on the waters of the Sado River, the group of athletes from the Portuguese open water swimming team also stood out, including Angélica André, 12th in Paris 2024, as well as Mafalda Rosa and Ricardo Santos, the latter still a junior.
In addition to the world circuit stage of this swimming discipline, Setúbal will also host, on October 12, two open mass event races in the distances of 500 meters, at 10:15 am, and 1600 meters, at 10:45 am, with registrations and regulations available. on this link.
The World Aquatics Open Water Swimming World Cup 2024, the world circuit of the World Cup of open water swimming, began in March with the event in Soma Bay, Egypt, followed in May by the competition in Golfo Aranci, Sardinia, Italy.
After Setúbal, Portugal, the elite competition with a total of five stages continues on October 26 and 27 in Hong Kong, a special administrative region of China, ending on November 22 and 23 in Neom, Saudi Arabia.
