The inauguration of the lights that will shine throughout the city begins, on November 24th, Christmas in Setúbal 2023, a program with cultural and leisure events for the whole family, which includes a fair and a Christmas market.
Several parts of the city, including the streets of the historic center and commercial downtown and some public buildings, will be lit up for Christmas from 18pm on the 00th, accompanied by music by the Dixit Band and traveling entertainment by the group Uh!Topia – Produções Creative.
It is the beginning of the Christmas in Setúbal 2023 program, which runs until January 7th and has one of its highlights on November 25th with the arrival of Santa Claus at Largo da Misericórdia, at 15pm, where a parade begins through the streets of city.
The route, accompanied by an entertainment and magic show, has a first stop at Praça de Bocage, a place where children can do face painting and watch the choreography “Mother Christmas and her dancing helpers”.
The next destination is Santa Claus's House, located on Avenida Luísa Todi, next to the bandstand, where on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, from 15pm to 00pm, it is available for the youngest to wish and take photographs.
It is also in this place in the city that the Christmas Market takes place, until December 24th, with the participation of more than four dozen exhibitors of regional products and crafts, including gastronomy, clothing and jewelry, in a wide variety of choices for the shopping for Christmas gifts.
The market operates every day between 10am and 00pm, with the exception of Christmas Eve when it closes at 19pm.
At Largo José Afonso, the Christmas Fair, between November 25th and January 7th, has entertainment equipment for the whole family, a food area and another for displaying crafts and regional products.
The fair opens from Monday to Thursday, from 15pm to 00:22pm, and on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays it closes at midnight. On Christmas Day and January 30st it opens from 1pm to 15pm, on the last day of the year 00 it closes at 23am. The fair closes on December 00th.
Another highlight of the Christmas in Setúbal 2023 program is the opening of the Town Hall to celebrations, which will have the Doors Open to Christmas from November 25th, from Monday to Friday from 09:00 am to 20:00 pm and on Saturdays and Sundays and holidays from 15:00 pm to 19:30 pm
The program includes activities for the whole family, on Saturdays, Sundays and holidays, on the streets or in public spaces, such as Praça de Bocage, Mercado do Livramento, Avenida Luísa Todi and the bandstand.
One of the attractions is the musical entertainment with the participation of the Dixit Band, the TUNA SemperT'unos, the Setúbal Regional Conservatory, the band from the Sociedade Musical Capricho Setubalense, the Setúbal Children's Choir, the Real Trovantuna from the Polytechnic Institute of Setúbal and the band Agarrat'Obrass.
Itinerant entertainment of performing arts, theater and dance shows, story times, face painting, various workshops, karaoke and a children's disco are also part of the Christmas program.
The Christmas season is also celebrated in other spaces and facilities in the city with a special program of cultural events at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, Cinema Charlot – Municipal Auditorium, Igreja do Convento de Jesus and Casa da Cultura.
The Municipal Public Library, Casa Bocage and Casa das Imagens Lauro António also have initiatives dedicated to the court, as do Casa da Baía, Moinho de Maré da Mourisca and Mercearia Confiança de Troino.
The Américo Ribeiro Photographic Archive marks the festivities with an exhibition of Happy Holidays portals collected over the years by the photographer from Setubal, on view at Casa Bocage from December 2nd to January 6th.
The exhibition, which is free to enter, can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, from 11:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 18:00 pm, and on Saturday, from 13:00 pm to 18:00 pm.
Another exhibition, also on display until January 6th at Casa das Imagens Lauro António, shares with the public documents, photographs and various articles related to the production of the film “A Christmas Carol”, directed by Lauro António for RTP in 1988.
The exhibition, which is free to enter, can be visited from Tuesday to Friday, from 10:00 am to 13:00 pm and from 14:00 pm to 18:00 pm, as well as on Saturdays, between 14:00 pm and 18:00 pm.
Alongside the exhibition, the “Christmas at Cinema” cycle takes place, with the screening of films selected by Frederico Corado, in November, on the 18th and 25th, and in December, on the 2nd and 16th. starting at 15pm, free entry upon reservation by contacting 00 969 754 and casadasimagens@mun-setubal.pt.
Cinema Charlot – Municipal Auditorium has a special program with films for children, from Monday to Friday, at 15 pm, from December 00th to January 18nd.
Casa da Baía hosts the “Christmas at the Table” cycle, on the 2nd, 3rd, 8th, 10th, 16th and 17th of December, at 16pm, in which a guest chef shares recipes made with regional products.

Also at Casa da Baía, a special Christmas edition of the Knowledge and Flavors Exhibition will take place on December 9th, from 10am to 00pm, with the sale of regional products.
The Municipal Public Library marks the Christmas season with the Christmas at the Library event, on December 16th, from 15:00 pm to 18:30 pm.
At Casa da Cultura, Mercearia Confiança de Troino and Moinho de Maré da Mourisca there are workshops for families on various themes related to Christmas.
