The new concept, implemented in a partnership between the Setúbal City Council and the Bairro Cool Association, combines the freshest products on the old vendors' stalls, local cuisine and a monthly cultural and musical agenda, which appeals to conviviality.
Sellers of bread, fruit, vegetables and cheese who have made the market's history for decades now join a range of new partners. The new offer includes the sale of oysters and regional wines, cheeses and preserves, in addition to a cultural program with concerts, themed events, workshops and activities for children.
The interior courtyard of the equipment has given way to a leisure area, with an open-air street food market with vans selling food, such as hamburgers, hot dogs, fried cuttlefish and artisanal ice cream made with organic products from Setúbal.
It is also in this space that the mural “O Pomar” appears, painted throughout the month of February by the artist from Setúbal Ângela Miranda Penedo.
