Lingua Terra Festival returns to Setúbal in June
Adriana Calcanhotto and Salvador Sobral and Bia Ferreira and Bárbara Eugênia perform at the 3rd edition of the Língua Terra festival, which opens on June 3, in Setúbal, and whose program includes, in addition to concerts, a series of parallel initiatives.
The event, which promotes exchange between artists from countries where Portuguese is the official language, takes place between June 3 and July 2, in two cultural spaces in the municipality of Setúbal, the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum and the Charlot Cinema – Auditorium Municipal.
“Língua Terra was born with the aim of promoting exchange between artists from six countries united by the Portuguese language, fostering cultural connections and collaborative artistic creations”, highlights the co-responsible for curating the project, Mônica Cosas.
According to the Brazilian producer, it is a festival that aims to “give visibility to the cultural diversity that makes up the different territories” and “also seeks to contribute with reflections on the possibilities of creating other possible worlds, more just and egalitarian”.
In this year's edition, held in partnership with the Setúbal City Council, the first concert, on June 5, at 21 pm, at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, features Adriana Calcanhotto, who invites Salvador Sobral.
The show, which is part of a tour of the Brazilian composer in Portugal around the album “Errante”, reaffirms “the ties between Brazil and Portugal based on music and culture”, sums up Mônica Cosas.

In addition to the concerts, the Lingua Terra program, which in this edition has a strong presence of Brazilian culture, includes parallel initiatives, such as a body percussion initiation workshop, promoted by the renowned percussionist Dani Zulu.
Throughout the session, scheduled for June 3, at 15 pm, on the rooftop of the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, participants explore and discover different sounds produced by the body, such as clapping, slapping, tapping and tap dancing.
The program also foresees a cinema cycle, dedicated to big names in Brazilian music, which opens on June 7 with “Aleluia, o Canto Infinito do Tincoã”, in which Brazilian director Tenille Bezerra addresses the life and career of Mateus Aleluia, singer and composer who was part of the celebrated Bahian group Os Tincoãs and who since the beginning of the century began a solo career.
“Filhos de João: O Admirável Mundo Novo Baiano”, by Henrique Dantas about the trajectory of the revolutionary Novos Baianos and the influence of singer and composer João Gilberto on the musical direction of the musical group, is the film to be shown on June 14th.
The cycle ends on June 21 with “Aquilo que eu Nunca Perdi”, by Marina Thomé, about the story of Alzira E., a pioneering artist from a small town close to the Brazilian Pantanal, a woman ahead of her time, leader of a rock band at age 63.
All films are shown at Cinema Charlot – Municipal Auditorium, from 21:30.
Tickets, on sale at the venue, cost 4,5 euros for the general public and 3,5 euros for students, under 25 or over 65 years of age. Users of nursing homes and retirees from Setúbal City Council do not pay admission.
The Língua Terra festival ends on July 2, at 21:30 pm, at the Luísa Todi Municipal Forum, with a concert by the Brazilian singer and activist Bia Ferreira, as part of the tour of the album “Faminta”, which has the first part of the singer and composer Bárbara Eugênia .

Born in São Paulo, Brazil, in an experimental meeting between music creators, in 2017, the Língua Terra project unites artists from Portugal, Cape Verde, Guinea-Bissau, Angola, Mozambique and Brazil, having the Portuguese language as a starting point .
In previous editions, also held in Setúbal, the event featured concerts by Elida Almeida, from Cape Verde, Bonga and Paulo Flores, from Angola, and Simone Sou, from Brazil, and a conversation about Angolan music and culture, with the guest appearances by Bonga, Galiano Neto and Batida (Pedro Coquenão).
In the theatre, the play “Chovem Amores na Rua do Matador” was presented, an adaptation of the homonymous story by Mia Couto and José Eduardo Agualusa, which reflects on the conflict between a Mozambican and the emerging cultures that incorporate new social practices.
