The eighth edition of the Illustration Festival, which has as guests the Portuguese André Letria and the Frenchman Alain Corbel, takes place in Setúbal until the end of October, with ten and a half exhibitions in a dozen spaces.
Inaugurated on October 1st, the 2022 Illustration Festival, organized by the Municipality of Setúbal in partnership with DDLX – Design | Comunicação and the publishing house Abysmo, also pays tribute to José de Lemos, the creator of “Riso Amarelo” in the extinct Diário Popular, who has an exhibition dedicated to him at the Municipal Gallery of 11.
André Letria and Alain Corbel have their exhibitions at Casa da Cultura, the first at the Galeria de Exposições and the second at Espaço João Paulo Cotrim, journalist, writer, editor, an important name in Portuguese comics and one of the mentors of the Illustration Festival, died in December, to whom this year's edition is dedicated.
At Casa da Avenida, there is the exhibition “If you don’t miss it”, a tribute to João Paulo Cotrim, and “Levar à Letar”, which is also a workshop, while the Azeitão Library and the space A Gráfica – Centro de Criação Artística host the exhibition “Portuguese Illustration”, with works by national illustrators.
Pedro Vieira exhibits at Livraria Culsete, “Postais”, by André Ruivo, is in the space A Gráfica, and “Dança”, by André Letria and Inês Fonseca Santos, can be seen at Casa Bocage.
The documentary “Climate Risks”, by Luís Cavaco, at the Michel Giacometti Work Museum, “Ana de Castro Osório”, by Luís Manuel Gaspar, at the Municipal Public Library, “See closely”, with local illustrators, at Casa do Largo, and “Clouds”, by João Francisco Vilhena and also in homage to João Paulo Cotrim, at the Museum of Setúbal – Convento de Jesus, are the other exhibitions of the Festa da Illustration.
The Casa da Cultura is open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10 am and 00 pm and on Sundays between 24 am and 00 pm, while Casa da Avenida is open to the public from Wednesday to Sunday between 10 am and 00 pm. at 22:00.
The opening hours of Galeria Municipal do 11 are from Tuesday to Friday from 11:00 to 13:00 and from 14:00 to 18:00 and on Saturday from 14:00 to 18:00, while Casa do Largo is open every day from 08:00 to 24:00 and the Museu de Setúbal – Convento de Jesus is open from Tuesday to Saturday from 10:00 to 18:00 and on Sunday from 14:00 to 18:00.
The Municipal Public Library is open from Monday to Friday from 09:00 am to 19:00 pm and on Saturday from 14:00 pm to 19:00 pm, while the Azeitão Library is open to the public from Monday to Friday from 09:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 14:00 pm to 17:30 pm and on Saturdays. from 14 pm to 00 pm.
Casa Bocage is open from Tuesday to Friday from 09:00 am to 12:30 pm and from 14:00 pm to 17:30 pm and on Saturdays from 14:00 pm to 18:00 pm, while the Michel Giacometti Work Museum can be visited from Tuesday to Friday between 09:30 am and 18:00 pm and Saturday and Sunday between 14:00 and 18:00.
The Culsete bookstore is open from Tuesday to Saturday between 10:00 and 13:00 and between 15:00 and 19:00, while the exhibitions in the A Gráfica space can be visited from Thursday to Saturday between 15:00 and 19:00.
On the 1st of October, outside the Casa da Cultura, there was also a concert with the band Sad Puto, a trio that includes the illustrators João Maio Pinto and Pedro Lourenço, within the scope of a program that included the launch of books, with the realization of Feira da Festa and with a musical session with Olhó Robot DJ, these two events in the space A Gráfica.
