Hungarian culture is highlighted in Setúbal on the 14th of May, in an event to be held at Casa da Baía, with dance and music demonstrations, gastronomy and workshops.
The Hungarian Culture Day, promoted by the Hungarian Embassy, the Municipality of Setúbal and the Novas Ideias Cultural Association, is part of a broader municipal program, which began on October 14 with the Korean Culture Day, which aims to promote the customs and cultures of other countries with the people of Setúbal.
The event, which takes place between 14:00 pm and 20:00 pm, with activities spread across the interior and exterior of Casa da Baía, includes a workshop and demonstrations of folk dances by the Hajdú group and two musical notes with jazz rhythms and traditional Hungarian music by the trio Contempo , which introduces the traditional Hungarian instrument cimbalom.
The program includes a demonstration of teqball, a sport invented by Hungarians, a gastronomic workshop led by the chef of the Hungarian Embassy, a creative workshop with typically Hungarian motifs and another dedicated to the Hungarian runes writing system.
The Hungarian Culture Day also features exhibitions, on display at Casa da Baía between 14:00 pm and 20:00 pm, on “Natural Treasures of the Visegrád Group” and “Hungarians in Portuguese Football” and a third exhibition on the last Hungarian king, Carlos de Habsburg, who died a hundred years ago and whose tomb is in Madeira.
The event features the visit of the Hungarian ambassador to Portugal, Miklós Halmai, and the vice-president of the Municipality of Debrecen, István Puskás, a town twinned with Setúbal.
