Green Flag rewards sustainability in Setúbal
The municipality of Setúbal was distinguished for the seventh consecutive year with the national Green Flag ECOXXI award, for recognizing good practices and environmental sustainability policies developed in the municipality.
The distinction, awarded by ABAAE – Associação Bandeira Azul Ambiente e Educação, was awarded on November 7th to the municipality, at the ceremony to announce the results of the Bandeira Verde ECOXXI 2023 program, held at the TagusPark Congress Center, in Oeiras.
The vice-president of the Setúbal City Council, Carla Guerreiro, who also holds the Environment portfolio, received the award given to the Setúbal municipality in the candidacy presented in 2023, which was evaluated by a national ABAAE commission with representatives from 34 entities.
66 Portuguese municipalities applied for the ECOXXI award, with 59 green flags being awarded to municipalities that, in the global index of sustainability policies, measured through 21 indicators and 70 sub-indicators, achieved an assessment above 50 percent.
